Ford Provides Jobs to Enhance Electrical F-150 Efficiency, Provides Electrical Van

DETROIT (Reuters) – Ford Motor (NYSE 🙂 Co announced Tuesday that it will be hiring 350 more U.S. workers to expand manufacturing capacity for its F-150 electric pickup truck in Michigan and assemble electric vans at a facility in the United States Close to Kansas City Complement, Missouri.

The company announced that it will add a second vehicle at the Mexican plant that is already earmarked for the construction of the Mustang Mach-E electric sports utility vehicle. Ford did not disclose how many people would be hired to build the additional vehicle in Mexico, which would share “a similar electrified platform” as the Mach-E.

Ford will invest $ 150 million in the production of engines and transmissions for electric vehicles at a transmission factory in suburban Detroit and save 225 jobs.

The automaker’s recent investments in electric vehicles are part of a $ 11.5 billion plan that has been worked out through 2022. Ford has promised the United Auto Workers union that it will invest $ 6 billion in US factories to build electric vehicles.

Ford will increase production capacity for an electric version of its large F-150 pickup truck by 50% from its original plans and create an additional 200 permanent jobs in a complex near its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. These jobs would exceed 300 jobs previously promised for the electric F-150 line.

The electric F-150, which should go on sale in 2022, will be in one segment with the electric pickups planned by Tesla (NASDAQ 🙂 Inc., General Motors Co. (NYSE :), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, and several start-up companies Compete That It Wasn’t in the product plans of most automakers just a few years ago.

Kumar Galhotra, president of Ford Groups Americas and International Markets, said the decision to increase F-150 electric power was made after the truck’s debut in June.

Based on the response from government agencies, merchant fleets and individual buyers to the work-oriented electric vehicle, “we have started working on a substantial increase,” Galhotra said in an interview.

Galhotra didn’t say how many electric F-150s Ford can build.

Ford will invest $ 100 million and hire 150 people to build electric versions of its transit van, which should go on sale in 2022. Electric transit will enter a field that ranges from virtually non-existent to overcrowded in the competition between established automakers and start-ups to respond to the demand from e-commerce delivery companies for electrically powered and digitally networked vehicles.
